Explore one of the highlights in the Zimmerli's collection, Songs of the Japanese Children by Helen Hyde, with Rutgers student Izumi Umeda (BA '21). During Spring 2021, Izumi undertook an independent study of this songbook to reveal the sources of the music, explore the symbolism of the illustrations, and understand the fascinating career of Helen Hyde. Izumi pursued her independent study with Professor Haruko Wakabayashi, Department of Asian Languages and Cultures, and Nicole Simpson, Assistant Curator of Prints and Drawings. She previously collaborated with the Zimmerli as one of the student curators of the virtual exhibition Musings by Moonlight: The Moon from Japanese Art to Japonism.
