Alex Melamid and the Incoherents: Puppet Performance and Seance

The afternoon kicks off at 2:00 with a puppet drama by Lawrence Krauser, using puppets created by Olga Okenuva, Christina Rodrigez, Irina Sakyaan, and the puppetry students at St. Ann's School. It is followed by a workshop at 3:00, led by artist Liz Magic Laser and spirit medium Dr. Lauren Thibodeau, as they communicate with great artists in the afterlife, seeking insight into how they achieved immortality. In addition, participants have the opportunity to channel their own powers as spiritual mediums and great artists themselves.
Activities are inspired by the exhibition Alex Melamid and the Incoherents, installed in conjunction with Komar and Melamid: A Lesson in History. Organized by Zimmerli curator Christine Giviskos with Alexander Melamid, it features recent works by Melamid and his collaborators, alongside works from the Zimmerli’s permanent collection created by The Incoherents. This group of Parisian artists and writers were known for their inventive and disruptive work during the 1880s and 1890s.Featuring posters, puppets, drawings, and illustrated journals by both Melamid and the Incoherents, the exhibition celebrates spirited creativity and irreverent art through visual art, language, and performance.
