Diversity, Equity, Access, & Inclusion
As part of the beloved community of Rutgers University, the Zimmerli Art Museum is committed to upholding diversity, equity, access, and inclusion as guiding principles for the museum’s operations, exhibitions, collecting, programming, and outreach.
Systemic racism and structural inequities have shaped the museum in numerous ways, as well as our home city of New Brunswick, New Jersey, starting with the dispossession of this land from the Lenape and Munsee peoples.
We affirm our commitment to practicing the principles of diversity, equity, access, and inclusion across all aspects of our operations. We actively and deliberately work to create a welcoming environment where diverse communities are valued and under-represented voices are reflected. As part of this mission, we are expanding the diversity of our exhibitions and collections, actively engaging our university and local communities in organizing inclusive programming, examining and eliminating barriers to access, and building equity into our organizational structure.
