Before Your Visit
Assemble Chaperones
For K-5 tours, please provide 1 chaperone per 10 students.
For grades 6-12, please provide 1 chaperone per 15 students.
Create Small Groups
Please divide your class into smaller groups in advance. A tour is ideal for a maximum of 20 students per group. You know your students and which pairings will be most successful. If you are not able to choose small groups in advance, the museum staff will do this at the beginning of the tour.
Accommodations
Questions or accommodation requests can be sent to Brandon Truett, btruett@zimmerli.rutgers.edu. Sensory kits from KultureCity are available to borrow at the reception desk.
Plan Lunch and Snacks
Zimmerli does not have a dedicated lunch space for K-12 tours. There are many restaurants around the museum and the College Ave Student Center is located down the street. If the weather is nice, students can eat outside on the patio or near Voorhees Mall.
Review Museum Guidelines
- Please do not touch the art or lean on the walls.
- Galleries and restrooms are accessible by wheelchair and strollers.
- While we do have a coatroom, please leave food, drinks, and backpacks on the bus as they are not permitted in the galleries.
- Photography is allowed, just no flash.
Day of Your Visit
Bus Parking
The bus driver can pull up in front of the museum entrance on Hamilton Street to dismiss people and must then proceed to either Busch or Livingston campus and park either next to the football stadium on Busch or next to the basketball stadium on Livingston. There is no space to park buses on the College Avenue Campus.
Car Parking
Metered parking is available in front of the museum and other adjacent streets; additional paid parking is available in the Gateway Center Parking Garage. A designated accessible street parking space is available in front of the museum. There are several additional paid parking decks in New Brunswick not far from the museum. You can find more information about locations and pricing on the New Brunswick Parking Authority Website.
Check-in
Please check-in at the front desk to alert staff of your arrival. Students must be supervised by their chaperone(s) during your visit. Bathrooms are located on the main floor and lower level.
Self-Guided Tours
If your visit is self-guided, you can ask the front desk for additional galleries information and/or resources. If you wish to discuss options for self-guided tours, please email education@zimmerli.rutgers.edu to discuss.
After Your Visit
