Terrace Improvements to Create More Welcoming Gathering Space

New Brunswick, NJ (May 10, 2023)—The Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers has announced a plan to carry out structural renovations to the front entrance and terrace, as well as corresponding internal spaces, from March 6 through mid-June.
The Zimmerli will remain open to the public during this time and staff will maintain regular work schedules. However, several metered parking spaces on both sides of Hamilton Street, in front of the museum, will not be available. Please visit the museum’s website zimmerli.rutgers.edu and follow on social media regarding progress of the project, including temporary changes to access points.
“We are thrilled to begin this long awaited initiative to update the museum’s front terrace,” Zimmerli director Maura Reilly said, “which has been delayed due to pandemic closures since 2020.” She continued, “This opportunity allows us to create a more welcoming gathering space for all visitors, as well as enhance the building’s street presence.”
Artwork in galleries and storage areas near the renovations will be relocated for their protection to other areas of the building or offsite.
The project will be managed by Rutgers University Institutional Planning and Operations Project Services, which completed engineering surveys in 2019.
