In the Search of an Absolute: The Art of Valery Yurlov

The art of Moscow artist Valery Yurlov (born 1932) stands out as one of the earliest examples of geometric abstraction in Soviet nonconformist art. Yurlov’s artistic vision developed in direct communion with the traditions of the Russian avant-garde of the 1920s. In his work, which the Zimmerli holds in depth thanks to the generosity of Norton and Nancy Dodge, these traditions were reflected in his search for an absolute. Throughout his artistic career, Yurlov has combined this principle with the latest developments and theories in contemporary art, such as neoconstructivism and performance art.

Organized by Julia Tulovsky, Associate Curator of Russian and Soviet Nonconformist Art

The exhibition is supported by the Avenir Foundation Endowment Fund.
