Oleg Vassiliev: Space and Light

This exhibition features paintings and works on paper by Russian artist Oleg Vassiliev (1931-2013), a defining figure in Russian contemporary art. Like his peers Ilya Kabakov and Eric Bulatov, Vassiliev began his career during the Soviet era as an “unofficial” or nonconformist artist. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1990 and is now recognized as a singular master. Vassiliev’s images from the 1950s through 2010s, the focus of this exhibition, specifically explore the artist’s fascination with space and light.

Oleg Vassiliev: Space and Light is the first posthumous retrospective of this seminal artist in the United States. The exhibition is accompanied by a publication that will be available in December 2014.

Organized by Julia Tulovsky, Associate Curator of Russian and Soviet Nonconformist Art
