Mashup: New Acquisitions from the Zimmerli
Mashup: New Acquisitions from the Zimmerli brings recent acquisitions into conversation with works from the permanent collection. The exhibition mixes artists, generations, styles, and media to create unexpected encounters across the Museum’s holdings. These juxtapositions reveal how individual works can reshape our understanding of familiar stories and open new avenues for interpretation. Rather than presenting acquisitions in isolation, Mashup explores collecting as an ongoing process of discovery, one that continually transforms the collection and expands the range of stories it can tell.
Part I of Mashup runs from February 3 to July 31, 2027.
Part II of Mashup runs from September 1 to December 19, 2027.
Mashup: New Acquisitions from the Zimmerli is organized by Jeremiah William McCarthy, Chief Curator and Curator of American Art, and Nicole Simpson, Curator of Prints and Drawings, with Isla Stewart, curatorial fellow and PhD student in Art History, and Chase Irvin, curatorial intern and MFA student at Mason Gross School of the Arts.
This exhibition is made possible through generous support from donors to the Zimmerli’s Major Exhibition Fund: Kathrin and James Bergin, Sundaa and Randy Jones, Heena and Hemanshu Pandya, and Mark L. Pomerantz.
The Zimmerli’s operations, exhibitions, and programs are funded in part by Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and income from the Avenir Endowment Fund and the Andrew W. Mellon Endowment Fund, among others. Additional support comes from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, and the museum’s donors, members, and friends.
Generous support for bilingual text is provided by Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All program.
