Home is Where…
As the popular saying goes, “Home is where the heart is.” This phrase conjures visions of domestic spaces as centers of warmth and intimacy, and sites of familial bliss and easy sociability. Homes, however, can also be much more complicated spaces where individuals wrestle with their identity, confront loss, and deal with the complex issues of aging, longing, and remembrance. This exhibition displays a wide array of interpretations of home, by artists including Alice Adams, Robert Arneson, Carmen Cartiness Johnson, Peter Milton, Elena del Rivero, Millard Sheets, and Yinka Shonibare, among others. The art on view, primarily works on paper, are drawn from the Zimmerli’s permanent collection.
